| Both Tivoli Village and One Queensridge Place are being developed by affiliates of Executive Home Builders, Inc. and its partners, including IDB Development Corporation, Ltd., Israel’s largest holding company. These developers hired Level C.M. as the general contractor on the Tivoli Village project. We have learned that Level C.M., in order to save money, has hired Allied West Construction as a subcontractor. Allied West Construction does not pay a fair wage to its employees and does not provide them with health care. The low wages and lack of insurance lowers the standard of living in the area and places the responsibility of providing care for Allied West Construction's employees on us citizens. We are also concerned that the lower wages and inferior working conditions are accompanied by a lack of training, which can result in shoddy workmanship. One of the purposes of a trade union such as ours is to maintain and improve the working conditions and lives of our members and other workers. One of the important stories in the news every day is the difficulty of obtaining quality health care. Since 1915, this Union has been looking out for its own members’ health. Thanks to the Union and our signatory employers, our members earn a respectable wage and receive quality health care. We are able to pay our own way so as not to be a burden on society, and for that we are grateful. Developers of One Queensridge Place and Tivoli at Queensridge, as well as Level C.M, and Allied West Construction, apparently do not share our beliefs. The Union, therefore, has no choice but to protest the choice of subcontractor. The Union intends to One exercise its right to publicize the employees’ working conditions and the employment practices of the developers, Level C.M. and Allied West, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Since the two properties have the same developers, we plan to engage in protected activity on both pieces of property. We hope you understand how seriously we view this situation. We invite you to join with us in the struggle to retain local standards that have benefited Nevadans for so long. One If you choose not to join us, we regret any inconvenience our activities may cause you. |
